Frequently Asked Questions
- How many applications are received?
Over the past three years an average
of 140 people have applied each year. One hundred eighty-six applications
were received for the class starting in June 2009. Admission is offered
to an average of 58 applicants each year to have a class of 40 students
begin the Program each June.
- Can I apply before graduating or completing all the prerequisite
courses?
Yes. A bachelor’s degree and all the required prerequisite courses
must be completed before the Program begins. However, no more than two
prerequisite courses can be outstanding for an application to be considered.
- What
transcripts are needed?
Official transcripts need to be received from all accredited colleges
and universities attended. This includes technical colleges and two
year campuses (UW-Madison transcripts do not need to be submitted).
If applying for the January 22 deadline, submit transcripts
with fall 2009 grades posted.
- Are UW-Madison students or Wisconsin residents
preferred for admission?
No, however the rigor of the academic background of each applicant
is considered.
- Can prerequisite courses be taken at technical schools or
two year campuses?
Yes.
- Is there a preferred undergraduate major for admission to the Program?
No. The most common majors are Kinesiology and Exercise Science; however,
students with a variety of majors are valued.
- What are the average grade
point average (GPA) and Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores of accepted
students?
The average GPA (last 60 undergraduate credits) of our students is
3.6. The average GRE scores are: Verbal = 480, Quantitative = 660,
Writing = 4.5.
- Is there a minimum GPA that is required?
Applicants with a GPA of less than 3.0 are encouraged to contact the
Admissions Advisor, Reenie Euhardy (608-265-4815)
before applying.
- Are there required minimum GRE scores?
Yes. The minimum GRE scores for
an applicant to be considered are: Verbal = 340, Quantitative = 450, Writing = 3.5. The GRE may be retaken and only the best overall
set of scores is considered.
- What scholarships and financial aid are available?
There are a limited
number of Program scholarships that students can apply for in the spring
of their first and second years of the Program. Please refer to the Student
Life section for scholarship

to the University
of Wisconsin Student Financial Services for financial aid information.
- Can I attend the Program part time?
No. The curriculum is full time, including summers.
- Is it possible to work while being a student?
The curriculum is intense and students are not encouraged to work,
however some students are successful while working part time, typically
working a limited number of hours on weekends.
- Are there "older" students
in the Program?
Yes; approximately one-third of students graduated from college from
two to more than ten years before starting the Program.
