Why I am a Physical Therapist, and Why I Teach Physical Therapy

I chose Physical Therapy because the profession allows me to continue to grow and develop in multiple areas. I enjoy the science behind what physical therapists do along with the caring and compassion exchanged when working with patients and clients.

Teaching has been an area that I have enjoyed for many years. For selfish reasons, I enjoy teaching to learn from the students, but I also enjoy working with others and sharing in the parts of their education when they really "get it." Then students truly realize how all of their hard work has paid off.

  • BS, Physical Therapy, University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse, LaCrosse, WI, 1991
  • MS, Continuing and Vocational Education, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, 2002

  • Board Certified, Geriatric Specialist, American Physical Therapy Association, 1999

Clinical Interests

My clinical interest lies in the older adult population. I have always enjoyed working this population along with their families and caregivers. I have worked with older adults in a variety of settings and have enjoyed each of these experiences for the knowledge I have gained from the patients and their families. Patients of this age group have wealth of information to share!

  • Vice Chair of the Southwest District of the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association
  • Treasurer of the Wisconsin Clinical Education Consortium
  • Test item writer for the Geriatric Clinical Specialty Exam
  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and member of the Education and Geriatric sections

Personal Interests

Over the past couple of years an interest in running (I should say jogging!) has been sparked. My family also enjoys hockey (both at the collegiate level and youth levels) along with roller-blading. In the warmer months I enjoy gardening.
