Meet a Physical Therapy Student - Lisa Clopper
Why do you want to become a PT? I want to be the person that helps others work through their physical struggles to get back to doing what they love. I love people and enjoy working with a variety of patients. Why did you choose UW-Madison? I went to undergrad here and couldn't move away. The city and opportunities offered here are amazing. I love being a Badger! The faculty for the DPT program is wonderful as well. What aspect of PT school surprised you? The amount of things that are expected to be accomplished in 3 years. The first couple weeks are overwhelming, but then you get into the groove of things and figure it all out. What is the most challenging part of PT school? Avoiding burnout. Classes are intense, so you need to learn to balance life and school. Breaks are definitely used to RELAX!
What is the best part about PT school? I love going to class and learning about what I'm actually interested in. I love my classmates and professors as well. We're one big happy PT family! What are your plans after you graduate? I've always wanted to work in a sports medicine setting, but I also really enjoy the inpatient rehab setting too. Both are really rewarding to me in different ways. I really don't know where I'll end up yet... What do you like to do in your free time? I absolutely love sports and I try to be as active as possible in my free time. I also enjoy just spending time with friends and having fun. Basically, I just live my life with a smile on my face and try to get my mind off the stress of studying when possible.
