Why do you want to become a PT?

I believe physical therapy allows you to help people in so many different situations. Helping people return to function is something that really appeals to me. Personally I have always found the human body an amazing machine and it has been fantastic learning so much about it.

Why did you choose UW-Madison?

I grew up just outside of Madison and have always considered it home. The city and the university have so much to offer students. The lakes, the terrace, State Street, the Badgers. It is just a beautiful campus and city and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

What did you do before PT school?

I received my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from UW-Madison in 1997. Then I spent 5 seasons working for the Chicago White Sox minor league system as a strength and conditioning coach and worked in several health clubs in Wisconsin and North Carolina.

What aspect of PT school surprised you?

The first thing was the faculty. They take an interest in you as student and person. They know what is going on in your other classes and they incorporate it to help you learn. They challenge you everyday, but they are dedicated to helping you find the best way for you to learn the material.

What is the most challenging part of PT school?

Balancing family, friends, and class work. It can sometimes be difficult to say no to them. Weekends and holidays don’t seem to last as long as well.

What is the best part about PT school?

I love being surrounded by people that are dedicated to the profession, faculty and students alike. It’s been great getting to know my classmates, working and having fun with them everyday.

What are your plans after you graduate?

Of course, finding a job is a high priority as is passing the boards to get the license to work at the job. With the need for therapists growing all over the state and country, it’s hard to say where that job will be. My main interest is in outpatient ortho.

What do you like to do in your free time?

During the summer I spend time with my wife biking and attending a few baseball games. I try to workout and play basketball during the winter. We go to a few Badger sporting events in all seasons.
