Meet a Physical Therapy Student - Anne Marie Koehn
Why do you want to become a PT? I want to work in a health profession and still have the capability to spend quality time with patients. I want to solve issues in a non-invasive manner to make a difference in people’s lives. Why did you choose UW-Madison? My family and friends are here, I love the city, and I’ve heard only great things from graduates of the program. What did you do before PT school? I grew up in Verona, and did my undergrad at UW-Madison. After graduating with degrees in zoology and history, I took a semester off to relax and work. What aspect of PT school surprised you? I am amazed by the variety of specialty fields that PT’s work in, and at how many options we have after graduation. After going to undergrad here, where there are so many students a person can get lost in the shuffle, I was also amazed at how tight-knit the program is. The faculty are readily available and really care about the students. What is the most challenging part of PT school?
Balancing school with life outside of school -- classes are time-consuming, and it can be difficult to find time for friends, family and even yourself. What is the best part about PT school? For sure, it's the people. My classmates are great; they have a variety of experiences to learn from and are always keeping me laughing in and outside of class. What are your plans after you graduate? My plans are pretty open. I hope to pass the boards and get a job. Somewhere. Who knows? What do you like to do in your free time? What free time? Just kidding. I love to see family and friends, enjoy biking and running, reading non-textbooks, and catching up on tv-shows and movies.
