Other Learning Opportunities

Intracurricular

Throughout the curriculum, opportunities are provided for students to explore areas of intrigue or to pursue topics of interest in greater depth. The following are opportunities within the Program:

  • PT 799: Independent Study. This course is designed specifically for the individual student, and could involve further research, more specific clinical topics, or further clinical experiences.
  • Students can coordinate research topics for PT 641: Current Issues in Rehabilitation Research and PT 642: Research Practicum to study an area in greater breadth and depth. Students often have the opportunity to publish in scientific journals, or present posters at local or national conferences. Please see the research page for more information on the student's role in research.
  • Shadowing opportunities with faculty in clinical settings.
  • Involvement with the UWHC/Meriter Hospital Orthopaedic PT Clinical Residency Program (Residents also participate in PT 641 when possible).
  • The Program's Annual Visiting Lectureship (time is arranged for Visiting Lecturers to spend with students).
  • Financial assistance through the Program and the Phi Theta Student Organization to attend local, state, and national professional meetings, Student Conclaves, and PT Legislative Days.
